Dear Motorola

Dear Motorola:

I thought of this today while driving. I noticed another driver talking on her cell phone. I thought about the chaos a ringing cell phone can cause while driving or when a user has a Bluetooth headset to put on their ear.

Why don’t cell phones have a “HoldTone” feature? When a user opens a flip phone, a recorded message could play for the caller saying that their party is coming to the phone. Once the driver has pulled over, or the Bluetooth user has donned their headset, they could push Send to connect the call.

This feature would be great for users and cell phone companies. For users, they would no longer have to fumble to answer the cell phone. The phone would answer for them when opened. For one piece cell phones, the user could push any key except Send to activate a HoldTone. For users who already download RingTones, they could download Holdtones, which the cell phone company could provide in the same marketplace as RingTones.

Just something to think about.

Thanks

James

– I think they could install this feature with just a software upgrade to most existing phones. That would be cool.
